Painters and decorators in Perivale
Painters and decorators for Perivale, UB6: a 1930s suburb of semis beside the A40, with the Hoover Building, Horsenden Hill and the trading estates of Bilton Road.
A 1930s suburb beside Western Avenue
Perivale had very few buildings before the 1930s. New road, rail and canal links then brought factories along Western Avenue, Horsenden Lane and the canal, and estates of semi-detached houses followed. The best-known building is the Art Deco Hoover factory by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners, which opened in 1933, is Grade II* listed and was converted into flats in 2018. The small medieval church of St Mary, Perivale Park and Horsenden Hill give the area its green edges.
Decorating interwar semis
A Perivale semi is usually a hall and stairs, two reception rooms and three bedrooms, the smallest often a box room. Original features vary: some houses keep picture rails, glazed doors or stained glass in the front door and bay, while others have been modernised with plasterboard and uPVC. Original timber needs sanding and priming; uPVC should not normally be painted without a specialist primer. As an example, a 3-bed house interior typically comes to £6,440–£9,990. See interior house painting for what is included.
Outside: render, bays and fences
Many Perivale semis have rendered or pebbledashed upper storeys above brick, and a bay window at the front. Render is washed, cracks are raked out and filled, and a breathable masonry paint is applied in two coats. Bay timber is sanded back to sound wood, knotted and primed, then finished in a microporous paint that lets moisture escape. Back gardens usually end in a timber fence, which takes a water-based fence paint or stain; including it in the same visit saves setting up twice.

Neighbourhoods
Around Perivale
Perivale Park
Perivale Park runs beside the River Brent on the Greenford side of Perivale, with a golf course and an athletics track. The streets facing it are mostly 1930s semis, many with bay fronts and rendered or pebbledashed upper floors.
Medway Village
Medway Village is a compact estate of 1930s semis around Medway Drive, whose houses were completed at the end of 1936. Estates of this period were usually built to a few repeated designs, so room sizes are fairly predictable, and the choices that change a price are the extras: a knocked-through lounge, a loft room or a rear extension.
Bilton Road
Bilton Road is one of Perivale's business areas, with industrial and warehouse units, trade counters, offices and shops near Perivale station. Unit and office repaints are usually scheduled out of hours or in phases so trading can continue.
Horsenden Lane
Horsenden Lane runs from Western Avenue past Horsenden Hill, crossing the Paddington Arm of the canal. In the 1930s factories grew up along it and Western Avenue, and houses of the same decade fill the streets nearby, where garden fences and timber take the weather.
Questions about Perivale
Can uPVC windows and doors be painted?
They can, with a specialist primer and a paint made for plastics, but results depend on the condition of the uPVC. Timber windows are more straightforward to repaint and usually a better investment of time.
Can you restore the look of original 1930s woodwork?
Yes. Doors, picture rails and window frames are sanded, knotted and primed where bare, then finished in eggshell or satin for a sheen that suits the period.
Do you paint commercial units on Bilton Road?
Yes. Commercial and office painting can be arranged around trading hours. Send photos and rough floor areas in m², and a decorator will confirm a fixed quote, visiting first where the space needs to be seen.
