Across the borough, town by town

The borough is seven towns with quite different housing. Central Ealing and much of Acton and Hanwell were built up in the late Victorian and Edwardian years, so tall ceilings, cornicing, timber sash windows and flat conversions are common. Greenford, Northolt and Perivale grew mainly between the wars, with streets of 1930s semis and short terraces, followed by post-war council housing, especially in Northolt. Southall mixes Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the Broadway and Southall Green with later twentieth-century streets further out. New-build blocks are rising too, most visibly in North Acton, around Park Royal and near the stations.

Those differences change how a job is planned. A period ceiling of around three metres needs a proper platform and more time than a 1930s bedroom. Old sashes need careful preparation so they still open. Fresh plaster in a new-build needs a mist coat before anything else. Controlled parking zones in central Ealing, Acton and West Ealing affect how a day on site is organised, and conservation areas can limit what you change outside.
